The R.I.D.E. Program is operated by the Brockville Police Service to target impaired drivers. R.I.D.E. is set up with the cruiser lights flashing and officers wearing bright coloured vests with flashlights are waiting to perform breath tests on those drivers who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Brockville Police Service applies for a yearly grant to the Ministry of Community Safety & Correctional Services. Two officers are assigned to each R.I.D.E. Program. Each R.I.D.E. Program lasts approximately six hours. Our annual grant of $8,000 is supplemented by assigned on-duty R.I.D.E. team members, due to the importance of maintaining a highly visible program to combat drinking and driving.
The officers assigned to R.I.D.E. dedicate time and energy to help cut down on the impaired drivers in the city. The R.I.D.E. Programs are not limited to a certain area for the six hours. Officers move the program frequently to locations throughout the city.
