K9 "Sep" and K9 "Trax"
Constable Mike Grant and his Police Service Dog "SEP" work in close partnership on patrol, searching for illicit drugs, evidence, break & enters and vandalism as well as missing/wanted persons. "Sep" was named through a contest involving area schoolchildren. His name was submitted in honour and memory of emergency services workers who lost their lives in New York City on September 11th, 2001. "Sep" is a Belgian Malinois who was trained in North Carolina and is certified in drug searches, tracking, suspect apprehension and protecting his handler.
K-9 "Trax" joined the Brockville Police Service in November, 2004, as a private family pet of Cst. Shawn Borgford who trained him. It was observed that Trax had exceptional skills and he was assessed by the K9 trainers who subsequently trained Cst. Borgford and K9 Trax, certifying them for duty as of December, 2004. Cst. Borgford donated Trax to the Brockville Police Service and once again, the Kinsmen Club of Brockville sponsored his training and start-up.
Both officers are assigned to regular front line patrol shifts and are accompanied by their K9 partners, increasing our effectiveness and ability to provide K9 services.

Police Service dogs are a very valuable asset to Police Services across North America. The Brockville Police Service identified the need to acquire such a resource and with the assistance of the Ottawa Police Service Canine Unit, and the O.P.P. Canine Unit, a proposal was developed for a Canine Unit for the Brockville Police Service. A common thread between Canine Units across the country is that they are largely funded by area service clubs in partnership with Police Services.
In January of 1997 a proposal was presented to the Kinsmen Club of Brockville who recognized the need and donated funding in the amount of $12,000.00 to establish the Brockville Police Service Canine Unit.
