Operation Identification is a program designed to discourage theft of valuable items from your home and other locations (boat, office, cottage, etc.) Operation Identification provides a way for you to easily identify your property, which in return makes it easier for police to return personal property. Operation Identification works whether your property is stolen or lost.
If you are interested in joining Operation Identification, contact the Brockville Police Service. once you are registered with the program, you will be loaned an electric engraver, free of charge, for a specified length of time. Members of Operation Identification will also receive decals to put on doors and windows to indicate that their valuables are marked.
The engraver should be used to properly mark individual items. The numbers used to mark these items are up to the individual owner; however, it is recommended that you use your social insurance number. If it's a business, organization or school wishing to mark and register items, the Brockville Police Service will provide a special identification number to be used. no matter what numbers are used, always remember to keep an up to date record of all items marked with the appropriate number. For deterrent purposes, the identification number should be visible and easily accessible without damaging the appearance of the item. A second hidden number can be applied on larger surfaces if required.
