Cops and Rockers Fundraiser for Brockville Skatepark

Over 600 students attended the Cops and Rockers fundraising MUCH MUSIC dance held at TISS

(Thousand Islands Secondary School) on April 7, 2006 for youth in grades 6, 7, 8 and 9.  Students were required to raise a minimum of $20 in donations for admission to the dance.  80% of the funds raised were donated to the new Brockville Skate Park, the remaining 20% of the funds were given back to the schools for their own use.  Over $28,000 was raised at this fundraising event.

The Brockville Police Service co-ordinated a coalition of youth friendly organizations; Every Kid in Our Communities of Leeds & Grenville, Upper Canada District School Board, Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario, Safe Community Coalition of Brockville & District with support from Cornwall Police Service and COPS & ROCKERS organization Ron Chenier & Associates to organize and volunteer at the dance.  There were over 50 volunteers working at the dance.

Prize donations from local merchants were obtained to be used as prize draws for the youth.  Prizes included IPods, digital camers, gift certificates, posters, t-shirts, watches and walkie talkies.  All students participating received a ‘loot bag’ as they left the dance which contained a meal gift certificate from Boston Pizza, and a soap/skin care product from Trillium Health Care Products.

The City of Brockville requires the youth / community in Brockville to raise $70,000 as their share for the cost of the new skate park.  The youth in Brockville have shown their support through this fundraising effort and are $28,000 closer to reaching their goal
